garden in a postcard

We are obsessing over these little postcard gardens! What an easy and cool way to send a touch of nature to your friends. The name of these cards is equally awesome: Postcarden. How clever is that?

We are so excited about our newly remodeled store at the King of Prussia Mall in Pennsylvania. We’ve added some cool new features like a denim style wall and vintage style fixtures. Take a look at some of the pictures we shot while we were there.
Check out the men’s wall
Aren’t these counters beautiful? And check out the lighting…
We even incorporated vintage fans into our wall display. How awesome does our new Vintage Re-Issue collection look?

Ryan Marshall, creator of Pacing the Panic Room, had a great idea revolving around his son who has Smith-Magenis Syndrome. He called up his musician friends and they called up theirs and together they created this album to raise money for SMS research. Smith’s is a rare developmental disorder with no cure. Ryan also came up with the brilliant idea to get the internet community together, in what I think is an ingenious experiment. Everyone was supposed to post this widget at the same time, to really create some noise and for the news to spear like wildfire. That day was yesterday, so I am posting a day late (you just get busy sometimes). They managed to reach the #1 spot in the iTunes charts in the children’s category. I got the album and listened to it on repeat! Let the magic continue to spread and check it out.

We are pumped for the release of Killers front man Brandon Flowers’ debut solo album. Since we are having a hard time waiting until September 14th, we are jamming to his new songs on Spin. The sound is everything we like: pop, rock, even a little western. Mixed together, the combination is unbelievably catchy and definitely worth checking out. I am a big fan of the song “Was It Something I Said?” Now I’ll just have to wait to buy it in two weeks.

Check out this bicycle shop in Germany. They advertise their bikes by mounting them to the exterior walls of the building. I love finding inspirational images on a Monday morning!

Clockwise from top left: Fossil, Poppytalk, Abby Try Again, and For Me, For You
There were some cool images floating around the web this week. Coincidentally, everything we love has a hint of turquoise color. Don’t you love the calming effect it has? It makes me want to get in my car and drive to the ocean. Here are some of the favorites we came across:

Leather Designer Berry used the Addison Dress as the perfect canvas for her authentic embroidery! She also shared her D.I.Y. instructions with us!! Now we can add some fun detail to our chambray pieces. I am loving the embroidery of the dream catcher… so cute!
My inspiration: a vintage store dress
Materials:
Chambray or Denim Shirt- I like the Addison Tunic Dress!
Embroidery Thread
Scissors
Embroidery Needle
Embroidery Hoop
Cotton Fabric Scraps
Double-Sided Fusible Interfacing
Soft (one sided) Fusible Interfacing
Pencil
Step 1. Wash and dry your shirt and cotton fabric, this way there will not be uneven shrinking when you wash after wearing.

Step 2. Sketch your shirt (I used the image from here), it doesn’t have to be perfect, just enough to plan your design. Using your favorite drawing tools plan your shirts’s motifs front and back. I chose to do a heart with initials, dream catcher and blooming cactus for the back. Typically vintage western shirts have symmetrical designs on the front and a floral motif along the back “yoke” of the shirt.

I am so inspired by these art installations. I love seeing natural elements with a shot of vivid color. Doesn’t it get you totally inspired? The knit wrapped tree below took artist Carol Hummel over 500 hours to complete. That’s equally inspiring in my book.

This is one of the greatest inventions I’ve seen in a long time- a portable picnic table! How great that you can easily cart this wooden suitcase around until you reach your perfect picnic destination. Sure beats a blanket on the ground! -Dennis

Love this look? Get it here.
Our Fall II book was shot in the very cool city of Nashville. We had a ton of fun checking out the vintage scenery and found it hard not to snap pictures everywhere we went. Our Fall collection fits in perfectly with the Nashville vibe- casual, eclectic, and just the right amount of vintage style.
Take a look at these great shots and see more here.
Gotta love the versatile Edward Sweater.
Don’t you love our favorite flight pant?
The only question left is “which color?” See them all here.

Get ready to be amazed. Artist Lauren DiCioccio uses a unique medium for her art- embroidery. She is currently working with the theme of mass-produced items like newspapers and plastic bags. Her newspaper series, for instance, is encased in hand-embroidered cotton muslin. Then she embroiders on top of a picture, which is usually a strong image or personality. The result is a beautiful and conversational work of art. We are crazy for creative minds and think Lauren deserves some serious praise.

Hatch Show Print isn’t your ordinary letterpress print shop. Not only is it one of the oldest working print shops, it’s been Nashville’s premier poster shop for some of the best names in Country music. Hatch’s style is as unique as it is familiar. Because of this, Hatch has a big fan base. Collectors, music lovers, even Americana buffs look to the shop for inspiration. We do too. In fact, we have been admirers for years. We had a Q&A session with Manager Jim Sherraden while we we were shooting our fall catalog. We couldn’t wait to learn more about the heartbeat behind Hatch. Check out a snippet of the interview below.
1. How would you describe your creative process?
So many artists wrestle with the question, “when is it done?” Here’s a little known fact about me–I’ve had more than fifty songs songs recorded as a lyricist. All of those years of songwriting taught me to not only know “when it’s done,” but also to keep in mind the balance of the imagery and the contrast of the color.
2. Are you up with the sun or do you burn the midnight oil? When do you feel you do your best work?
Definitely midnight oil. I have a studio in my backyard and you’ll always find me out there when the moon is up.

Our love for maps is still going strong. How can you resist when there are so many unique styles to choose from? We even scoured the country looking for vintage school maps for our Fossil Finds section. Here are some other map findings we are into:
