Upfront: The sewn aspect to this garland is not as tricky as it looks. And the special three-dimension effect that is added is totally worth the sewing work.

Materials Needed:

· Assortment of colored paper (in a variety of pink shades)

· Heart paper punch

· Sewing machine + thread

· 2” x 6” pieces of ribbon

Directions:

Step #1: Select your preferred paper colors in a range of pink shades.

Step #2: Using the paper punch, punch out hearts.

Step #3 Now it’s time to get out the sewing machine! Start by creating a hanging loop for the first end of the garland. To do this, take 6” of ribbon, fold in half, and sandwich the ends of the ribbon between two of the punched paper hearts. Put it under the presser foot, make a couple of backstitches to lock the thread in place, and then sew a straight line away from the ribbon loop.

Step #5: Once you’ve reached your desired length for the garland, take another 6” piece of ribbon and create a second hanging loop to close the garland, just as you did to start the garland. Pair the hearts up in two and start feeding them through the sewing machine. Allow the sewing machine to do a couple of stitches between each pair of hearts you set through to space the hearts from each other. Make the garland as short or long as you want. Feel free to work in gradient order to get an ombré effect, or randomize the heart colors.Step #5: Once you’ve reached your desired length for the garland, take another 6” piece of ribbon and create a second hanging loop to close the garland, just as you did to start the garland.

Step #6: Once you have your finished garland, fold the paper hearts back from the crease to create a three-dimensional effect.
