Fossil in Action
Aug 2, 2013
As far as we’re concerned, Fossil fans are the best kind of fans there are. We’re often sent incredible stories about our products and the lives they live outside of our stores—all personal tales of “Fossil in Action.” We are excited to start sharing some with you! The below story was submitted by LCDR Todd Cleveland, a US Navy Pilot.
I wanted to write Fossil to let you know how pleased I am with your products. I am a Navy pilot and fly FA-18s. I was on deployment on April 8th and flying a combat mission in Afghanistan. During the mission I experienced engine failures of both of my two engines and had to eject into the North Arabian Sea going over 200 mph. During the ejection, which is over 20 times the force of gravity, I lost everything that was attached to me and had multiple items in my flight gear pockets that were torn free and lost. The only thing that stayed with/on me was my Fossil watch. After spending over 45 minutes in the salt water before being picked up by the helicopter, my watch was still ticking. As a matter of fact, aside from a few tiny bends in some of the pins on the band and a small chip in the face of the watch, it works just as well as it did when I bought it three years ago. In the most violent experience of my life, when everything else I was wearing failed or was torn loose and lost, my Fossil watch performed beautifully. I just wanted to thank you and let you know that I will be a lifelong Fossil wearer after this experience.
Attached is a picture of the damage to my hands that shows the watch still ticking! In the background is my TOPGUN patch and our squadron (VFA-103) patch that is missing a corner from when the doctors cut off all of my flight gear in the hospital.
Thank you very much for your quality products!
